Chapter 22 - Types of Choking
A foreign body may partially or completely block a victim's airway limiting or stopping the flow of air to the lungs. A choking victim who cannot cough to emit sound has no air exchange and requires immediate assistance to free the obstruction. A victim of a blocked airway with partial air exchange will be able to cough or speak, and will likely be able to free the object without direct assistance.
